TSX Venture Exchange Celebrates a Milestone
The TSX Venture Exchange is celebrating an important milestone this month -- November 26 marks ten years since the creation of Canada's national junior equities market!
Our exchange has seen many great achievements during the past decade:
• In its very first month the market raised over $64 million in financing and saw an average daily trading volume of 50,938,047
• Since 1999 over 20,000 venture financings have raised a total of $44.4 Billion
• 304 venture companies have graduated to the senior market and now account for $87.6 billion in market capitalization
Every TSX Venture Exchange listing initiated with a belief that the public venture markets in Canada were rich with opportunity. And indeed they have been, they continue to be, and we're working hard to make sure they stay that way. Our team is dedicated to enabling growth by providing a healthy and active market for public venture capital.
While the landscape has been challenging over the past year there are clear signs that a strong recovery is starting to take place:
• Market capitalization was up 61% year to date at the end of October.
• The S&P/TSX Venture Composite Index is up 52.5% year to date as at the end of October and the index has outperformed most of the world's major exchanges.
• Trading volumes on TSX Venture Exchange have grown from an average of 128,036,175 shares per day in January 2009 to an average of 174,451,349 shares per day in October.
• We are also seeing a solid and sustained increase in the number and size of new financings on the exchange compared to 2008.
Our market is strong and vibrant, and it continues to grow and gain momentum. The TSX Venture Exchange and our senior market, Toronto Stock Exchange, are recognized in Canada and around the world for our healthy liquidity, integrity and high calibre of listed companies.
For junior companies that are considering a public offering, or seeking access to new venture financing to fuel growth, there is no better place to be. Please join us in celebrating this anniversary. The success of our market should not be credited only to the exchange as an entity, but also to the entire community that supports public capital markets in Canada.
